View Full Version : VRT squat the same as half knee bend of M7?
Is the VRT squat similar to the half knee bend exercise that John describes in M7?
I can visualise and perform most weight training exercises like bench press etc, but I'm having trouble visualising dumbbell / barbell squats without the weight. Do I simply flex the quads and the calfs when squatting (like the half knee bend), or is there something else to it?
To rephrase the question, what is the difference between a simple squat and a VRT squat?
Thanks in advance.

In my opinion flexing quads through range of motion has different effect than visualizing lifting a weight.Visualization elevates the intensity much more. The problem for us is to find a way to make what we visualize more "real".For me it helps to perform sumo squats where i hold between my legs an imaginary heavy dumbell.

What I never got, when I was squatting with weights, was that concentration on the tension would have expedited my results. instead I just focused on going up and going down so I could say iI squatted wtih such and such a weight. Obviously, there was body English used and areas of the thighs that weren't worked..
However, to help your problem, try draping a towel, thick rope, or martial arts belt around your shoulder and pull down as you squat up. Even though you are providing some resistance, the movement is still DVR and you will feel more of a groove as if you were using a weight.

Try FULL VRT squats( even if you have to hold onto something for balance). Unlike squatting with weights, full VRT squats are both safe & beneficial . Joints (incl knees) should be put through full ROM moves & virtual resistance is a safe way to acquire these benefits.
